CKs Poker Night (3/31)

Tonight was Wednesday night, aka Ck's poker night. 7 of us met up at Ck's and threw down ten bucks for the first game.

I felt I did as good as I could have done with the hands I was dealt. In the end, it was Blob, JK, and me. Blob and I were in a hand and I was running out of chips, so I went all in on a bluff... but he had trips and eliminated me in 3rd place. Josh ended up beating Blob.

The second game I doubled up off pocket queens pretty quick. Then I eliminated Jason with a straight. Then I hit trips with an Ace 7 and took Jare Bear out. I had about 3 times as many chips as anyone else, so I played a lot more hands than I normally would.

The game turned when the big blind was on me and I had 10 of clubs 5 of clubs. The flop came out all low cards with one club. 4 players in the hand, everyone checked. The turn came out another club. I was acting first, so I threw out a 600 chip bet. A semi bluff considering if I hit a 10, I would have top pair... and if I hit a club then I had a 10 high flush. Two folds, and then CK re-raised me. I was in for 900 chips now, and didnt have much of a choice. At that point I realized I had a 20% chance to hit my hand. I had a commanding chip lead and it was worth the risk to me. The river came and I hit the flush. CK went all in, and I called and he was eliminated with trips.
Now it was me and Josh heads up and I had probably 3 times as many chips. I was being dealt fire all night, and everything was hitting. Eventually Josh folded to enough of my raises that his only chance was an all in. He went and I called. I had Jack 9 and hit my jack on the flop. That was game. Not counting me, there was 6 people in the game... and I eliminated 4 of them.

Total winnings at cks- $240.

Favorite Hands

My favorite hand-
Queen Nine suited (spades)

I remember the first time I stepped into the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino and made my way over to the No Limit $1-$2 tables. My heart was racing as I got dealt my first hand, but looking over at Sam across the table made me feel a little more comfortable. It was Queen Nine. I was on the big blind, since I just sat down and opted to pay it to play. Anyways, I wasnt raised at all pre-flop.
Flop- Queen, Nine, King.
I had two pair. I threw a five dollar chip out there and I was called immediately by one player.
I threw 5 more out on the turn, and five more out on the river. I was called both times. The guy flipped over his top pair of Kings, and my lousy Queen Nine took it all.
Ever since, I make it a habit to limp in with it if the price to play is worth it. And 90 percent of the time... it works every time.

Whats your favorite hand and why?

$3.30 NLHE on PokerStars (Part 3)

So I push, thinking I for sure have this with my pocket Queens. I figured the first caller with the short stack would fold, and he does. Then the big chip stack did what I didnt think he would do... Call my all in. I flip over the ladies, and he flips over the cowboys. Ouch.
This guy, who has been bullying and playing garbage all night... got the right hand, at the right time.
The flop is: 10 10 J
So I need a Queen, or runner runner for the straight. This leaves me with a 20% chance to win the hand.
The turn is: K
Ouch. He now has 3 kings. Doesnt entirely hurt me though. I could now make a straight with either an Ace or a Nine. Thats 8 cards. I have a 17% chance of hitting my hand and doubling up off the chip leader.
The river is: 8.
And Im done. Eliminated in 404th place. No money. No pride.

$3.30 NLHE on PokerStars (Part 2)

Heres the situation...

Im looking to double up quick and get dealt pocket queens... and Im the big blind. The blinds are at 500/1000 and the first four hands fold. One players raises 1,000. He has a small chip stack, so I think he may have something like KJ or any two face cards. If he had a pocket pair he would have pushed more, especially with his small stack. He was being a little cautious, so I knew I probably had him at this point.
The player after him, who is the big chip stack with 78,000 chips raises 1000 more. This guy has been bullying people out of pots all night. He had more than double everyones chips. With only one caller thus far, I thought for sure he was just trying to buy another pot and push people around a bit. The hands after him fold.
So I have a decision to make. I have the ladies in my hand, and 1,000 chips in the pot. Do I just call and make it 3,000 total? Do I fold now that the price to play is 3 times my big blind and the big chip stack is playing against me? Or is it time to push and see how much these people like their hands?

What would you do?

$3.30 NLHE on PokerStars

So today I entered a tourney on PokerStars for $3.30. The tournament had 1231 entries, and the top 150 places paid but here are the top 10 payouts:
1) $1,500
2) $1,100
3) $800
4) $600
5) $420
6) $340
7) $250
8) $170
9) $100
10) $80

Yes, I realize that first place is a pretty hefty friggin' payout.

Anyways, this is how it went down:
For the first hour or two, I played tight as hell. In a deep tournament, with this many careless people, its important to pick and choose your spots wisely. You have to know you are on top when you push those chips out there. Too many people are playing loose as shit at the start, so you have to just sit and wait to double up on a good hand. I was right at the average chip stack for the first 2 hours. Then I got my big hand, King Ten of clubs on the big blind. it went around, never got raised. I had 4 callers. The flop comes Queen, Nine, Four... and guess what? Yes, they were all clubs. I raise half the pot, a modest bet... trying to make as much as possible. Three players fold, so I have one caller. The next card comes out an Ace of hearts. Im happy about it, hoping he has an ace and it makes him give me more chips. So I bet half the pot again, and he re-raises me. I re-raise him and he pushes all in. I call, of course, and flip over the flush. He shows an Ace Queen, no clubs. He has to hit an Ace or Queen on the river to win... which he doesnt. I double up.
The chip average is 17,000 and Im sitting at 35,000 chips at this point. Im in 52nd place out of 500 remaining players. From here, I just sit around and be patient... waiting for the right hands to make a move. Until the chip average starts getting near me again, its pretty much smooth sailing. Another hour goes by, and I may have 37,000 chips or so by now. The chip average is 20,000. And I am currently in 72nd out of 434 players. Looking at the top 10 chip stacks, I realize they all have over 100,000 chips. Now I could care less about any of the money under 15th place, so I realize I need to find a way to double up or these big stacks are just gonna sail to the final table easy.
